Backups are Important

Backups are never important until it is too late to make them.

I had a scare earlier this week from almost having data loss. I went to use some reference photos I'd downloaded from Proko, but the folder was missing. It wasn't that much of a concern until I realized that it also wasn't in the Trash folder.

Luckily, I've started experimenting with Borg and was able to restore from a recent backup.

I could have downloaded the files from Proko again, too, but this isn't always an option. Just recently, one of my favourite artists removed all of her work from DeviantArt. Some of it may never be seen again.

As a side note, I'm going to replace my old hard drive. 10 years of spinning a platter is long enough.
